I started my first business in 2011, but the need for better tools started long before that. Through school, marriage, parenthood, and running businesses, I was always paying for software I barely used — an image compressor here, a PDF merger there, a financial calculator behind a paywall somewhere else. Every "free" tool I found had a catch: daily caps, forced sign-ups, or files getting uploaded to servers I did not trust.

So I started building my own tools. The first one was an image compressor for my own workflow. It worked well enough that friends asked to use it. That was the beginning of SmarterSources.

What SmarterSources Is

SmarterSources is a collection of free online tools that run entirely in your browser. No accounts. No file uploads to external servers. No daily limits. You open a tool, use it, and move on.

Every tool is designed to do one thing well. There is no bloated dashboard, no onboarding flow, and no premium tier gating the features you actually need.

What You Can Do Here

The toolkit spans 15 categories. Here is a quick overview of what is available:

Image Tools

Merge multiple PDFs into one, split them apart, compress file size, remove or extract specific pages, and rearrange page order. All processing happens on your device.

Over calculators covering personal finance, business, real estate, and everyday math. Calculate mortgage payments, plan your retirement savings, figure out tips, run break-even analysis, or generate professional invoices.

Student and Educator Tools

tools built for academic workflows. Generate APA and MLA citations, calculate your GPA, use the Pomodoro timer for focused study sessions, build flashcards, and plan study schedules.

Creator Tools

How It Works

Every tool on SmarterSources processes your data directly in your browser using JavaScript. Your files never leave your device. There is no server receiving your images, PDFs, or financial data. When you close the tab, the data is gone.

This matters for two reasons:

• Privacy. Nobody — including me — sees what you are working on. There is no analytics on file content, no tracking of what you upload, and no data retention.
• Speed. Since nothing gets uploaded or downloaded, processing is instant. A 10MB image compresses in seconds because the work happens on your hardware, not some server queue.
