Free Video to Audio Converter

Extract the audio track from any video file directly in your browser. This tool supports all major video formats including MP4, WebM, MOV (iPhone), AVI, M4V, MKV, and more. It works with videos downloaded from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter/X, Facebook, and any other platform. Unlike cloud-based converters that upload your files to remote servers, this tool processes everything locally on your device using the Web Audio API. Your video never leaves your computer or phone.

How It Works

When you drop or select a video file, the tool reads it as raw data and uses the browser's built-in Web Audio API to decode the audio track. The decoded audio is then encoded as an uncompressed WAV file (PCM 16-bit) with the original sample rate preserved. If you set trim times, only the selected portion is included. The result is a high-quality WAV file ready for use in any audio player, video editor, podcast tool, or digital audio workstation (DAW).

Supported Video Formats

This tool accepts any video format that your browser can decode. MP4 (H.264 with AAC audio) works in all modern browsers and covers most videos from iPhones, TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter/X. WebM (VP8/VP9 with Opus or Vorbis audio) is supported in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. MOV files from iPhones work in Safari and most modern browsers, including those using HEVC/H.265 encoding. AVI, M4V, MKV, OGV, 3GP, and FLV files are supported to varying degrees depending on your browser.

Why WAV?

WAV is a lossless, uncompressed audio format that preserves every detail of the original audio. It plays in every audio player on every platform. WAV files are larger than MP3 or AAC, but they're the ideal starting point if you plan to edit the audio further. You can always convert WAV to MP3, M4A, or other compressed formats afterward using any standard audio converter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What video formats are supported?

MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, M4V, MKV, OGV, 3GP, FLV, and more. The tool accepts any video format your browser can play. iPhone videos (MOV with HEVC encoding) work in Safari and most modern browsers. Downloads from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and other platforms (typically MP4) work in all browsers.

Does this tool upload my video?

No. Your video never leaves your device. All processing happens locally in your browser using the Web Audio API. There is no server involved, no account required, and no data collection.

What audio format is the output?

The tool outputs uncompressed WAV (PCM 16-bit) at the original sample rate. WAV is lossless and universally supported. You can convert the WAV to MP3 or other formats using any audio converter if you need a smaller file.

Can I trim the audio?

Yes. Set the Start and End times (in seconds) to extract only a portion of the audio. The duration display updates in real time so you can see exactly how much audio will be included.

Is there a file size or duration limit?

There are no hard limits since everything runs in your browser. However, very long videos (over 30 minutes) may take longer to decode and produce large WAV files. For best results, use the trim feature to extract only the portion you need.

Why is the WAV file larger than the original video?

Video files use compressed audio codecs (AAC, Opus, MP3) which are much smaller than uncompressed WAV. A 5 MB MP4 might produce a 50 MB WAV. This is normal — WAV preserves full audio quality with zero compression. Convert to MP3 if you need a smaller file.
