Contraction Timer
Time your contractions, track frequency and duration, and get alerted when the 5-1-1 pattern is detected. Your data stays in your browser and can be exported as CSV to share with your care team.

How to Time Contractions
Timing contractions helps you and your healthcare provider understand how labor is progressing. Each contraction has two important measurements: its duration (how long it lasts) and the interval (how much time passes between the start of one contraction and the start of the next). As labor progresses, contractions typically get longer, stronger, and closer together.
Using This Timer
Tap Start when you feel a contraction begin. The timer starts counting up. When the contraction ends, tap Stop. The contraction is recorded with its exact start time, duration, and the interval since the previous contraction. Your running averages update automatically, and the last-3 averages help you see recent trends without older data pulling the numbers.
The 5-1-1 Rule
A common guideline for when to go to the hospital is the 5-1-1 rule: contractions come every 5 minutes, each lasting about 1 minute, and this pattern has continued for at least 1 hour. This timer automatically checks for this pattern and shows an alert when it is detected. Keep in mind that every pregnancy is different — your doctor may give you different instructions based on your specific situation, distance from the hospital, or medical history.
Your Data Stays Private
All contraction data is stored in your browser's local storage. Nothing is sent to any server. You can export your log as a CSV file at any time to share with your doctor, print it out, or keep as a record. If you import a CSV, it replaces your current data, so export first if you want to save what you have.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the 5-1-1 rule for labor contractions?
The 5-1-1 rule is a guideline for when to head to the hospital: contractions come every 5 minutes, each lasting about 1 minute, and this pattern continues for at least 1 hour. This timer automatically detects this pattern and alerts you when it is met.
How do I time contractions?
Tap Start when a contraction begins and Stop when it ends. The timer records the duration of each contraction and the interval between them (measured from the start of one contraction to the start of the next). Track several contractions to see the pattern emerge in your averages.
Is my contraction data saved?
Yes. Your contraction data is saved in your browser's local storage so it persists if you close and reopen the page. You can also export your data as a CSV file to share with your doctor or keep as a record. No data is sent to any server.
What if my contractions are irregular?
Early labor contractions are often irregular — varying in length and spacing. This is normal. As labor progresses, they typically become more regular. Keep timing them; the averages and last-3 stats will help you spot when a consistent pattern is forming.
