How to Play Minesweeper

Minesweeper is a logic puzzle where you uncover cells on a grid while avoiding hidden mines. Each revealed cell shows a number indicating how many of its 8 neighbors contain mines. Using these clues, you figure out which cells are safe to click and which ones to flag as mines.

The Numbers

A "1" means exactly one of the eight surrounding cells is a mine. A "2" means two neighbors are mines, and so on. An empty cell (no number) means none of its neighbors are mines — and the game automatically reveals all connected empty cells to save you time.

Flagging Mines

Right-click a cell (or long-press on mobile) to place a flag where you think a mine is. Flags help you keep track of identified mines so you do not accidentally click them. The mine counter in the top left shows how many mines are left unflagged.

Difficulty Levels

Beginner is a 9×9 grid with 10 mines — a good starting point. Intermediate is 16×16 with 40 mines for a real challenge. Expert is 16×30 with 99 mines — classic Minesweeper at its hardest.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you play Minesweeper?

Click cells to reveal them. Numbers tell you how many of the 8 surrounding cells contain mines. Use logic to figure out which cells are safe and which are mines. Right-click or long-press to flag a cell you think is a mine. Clear all safe cells to win.

What are the difficulty levels?

Beginner is a 9×9 grid with 10 mines. Intermediate is 16×16 with 40 mines. Expert is 16×30 with 99 mines. The grid sizes and mine counts match the classic Windows Minesweeper.

Is the first click always safe?

Yes. Mines are placed after your first click, and the game guarantees your first click and its surrounding cells are mine-free. This gives you a safe opening to start working from.

How do I flag a mine on mobile?

Long-press a cell for about half a second to toggle a flag. Tap normally to reveal a cell.
